New indoor triathlon series delivers safe, fun and social first-time experience
Hundreds of Australians have competed in their first indoor triathlon, part of the new TRIX3 series of events now available at participating Belgravia Leisure centres.
With 15 centres across Australia and New Zealand already having been involved in the series and another 16 centres hosting the event over the next three weekends, the facility management group is excited with the potential of TRIX3.
TRIX3 Indoor Triathlon Series is an exciting new format in triathlons, performed entirely indoors and of varying event lengths. It has been dubbed one of Australia’s easiest triathlons, but it delivers more than that given the participation the event has created so far.
Three event lengths are offered in TRIX3 series: TRI-20 (20 minutes), TRI-40 and TRI-60, with each participant competing in an indoor swim, stationary bike ride and a treadmill run.
During recent events, Victorian teenager Leo Worsham broke Greensborough Triathlon Club’s TRI-60 (60-minute event) by covering 23.79km, while Terri Czompo equaled the distance set by Jenny Stone with 20.01km all outstanding efforts at Watermarc in Doncaster.
The TRI-60 men’s record was smashed by Daniel O’Donnell at Waves Fitness and Aquatic Centre in Sydney on Saturday with a distance of 29.09km.
Praising the program and the way it connects communities to new opportunities to exercise and enjoy the benefits of healthier lives, Triathlon Australia Chief Executive, Miles Stewart stated “the inaugural series has been a resounding success from our perspective. It is giving participants the chance to experience triathlon in a safe and social environment.
“Belgravia has played a huge role in the series, not only in providing excellent facilities but the passionate and enthusiastic staff that have contributed to the positive experience.”
The TRIX3 Indoor Triathlon Series removes the daunting task of swimming in the open water, and riding a bike on the road. With the event based on time not distance, it allows participants to complete the triathlon in either a 20, 40, or 60-minute time frame option.
Belgravia Events Chief Executive, David Hansen added “we’re so pleased with the feedback this inaugural event is generating.
“Our staff and our teams are reporting high participation and plenty of smiles as members and guests tick off this bucket list item - their first triathlon. Of course, the key to participation is to live a healthier life through exercise. There’s nothing better.”
