NBL to enhance community programs with Australian Sports Foundation partnership
A new partnership between the Australian Sports Foundation (AFS) and the National Basketball League (NBL) will allow the elite basketball competition to boost its community and philanthropic pursuits.
As part of the arrangement, the ASF will work with clubs to expand their reach within communities and to promote basketball.
It will also take over NBL fundraising initiatives as the only organisation in Australia that can attract finance to sports as a tax-deduction.
Over the 30 years of its existence, the ASF has raised more than $400 million for athletes, clubs and sporting organisations. Organisations can raise funds via its online portal, www.asf.org.au.
Announcing the new partnership, ASF Chief Executive, Patrick Walker stated “the NBL is well positioned to find success in fundraising; as one of the fastest growing participation sports in the country, with visionary leadership, a powerful broadcast reach and a strong, passionate fanbase, we believe that the NBL is primed for success in this space.
“The NBL joins other major professional leagues who entrust ASF with their fundraising strategy and drive their campaigns through our online platform.
“The ASF allows donations to sport to be tax-deductible so basketball fans can help their sport continue to grow and develop into the future.”
Excited to partner with the ASF, NBL Commissioner, Jeremy Loeliger added “our partnership with the ASF will help the NBL forge ahead and build a stronger, more resilient competition at all levels across Australia to unearth and foster the next generation of NBL, NBA, Boomers and Opals talent.”
“The NBL is excited to work with the ASF to make a meaningful impact in basketball communities.”
The NBL will look to use the partnership not only for fundraising but also to promote basketball and increase participation rates.
The move comes after one of the strongest seasons on record for the NBL.
Any contribution to the NBL’s programs with the ASF will be tax deductible.
