Multi-million dollar Western Australian aquatic and recreation complex to be known as Cockburn ARC

A poll of more than 2,000 residents has seen the City of Cockburn’s new $109 million aquatic, recreation and sport complex - which will incorporate the Fremantle Dockers' new training headquarters – named as the Cockburn ARC.

The naming of the multi-million dollar centre, previously known as the Cockburn Aquatic and Recreation Facility (CARF), went with the new name over three other options.

The name was originally chosen back in February but was temporarily shelved when a report to Council found people thought they were voting for the Dockers' new training HQ and was subsequently put out for more public consultation.

However, after more than 1,000 Cockburn residents were polled, 52% again picked Cockburn ARC aquatic and recreation centre) over Star Centre Cockburn.

The Dockers' facility will be named independently at a later date.

Due for completion in mid 2017, Cockburn Mayor Logan Howlett previously told WAtoday the naming would be a key milestone, stating “this facility will become a recognised brand associated with world-class recreation and aquatic amenities."

The new venue, developed in partnership with the Dockers and Curtin University, will include an arena with several indoor and outdoor pools, a water playground, six basketball courts and state of the art gym facilities.
