Curtin University will have students in the field of sports science and exercise physiology learning on-site at the facility.
The City of Cockburn has is partnering with the Dockers, the Western Australian and Federal Governments and Curtin University to deliver the largest facility of its kind ever undertaken in Western Australia.
The Dockers and Curtin University are responsible for the costs of their own facilities, but working in partnership has enabled a state-of-the-art facility to be developed.
Looking forward to the completed facility, Cockburn Mayor Logan Howlett recently stated “when complete we will boast one of the best facilities in Australia that will bring many opportunities to this great city … it will increase local employment, bring more visitors to the area but importantly cater for our growing community and their needs.”
With tenders submitted for the building works, Dockers General Manager of Strategic Projects Brad Paatsch added that “we look forward to working with the City over the coming months to appoint one of the selected builders as the building contractor, and to commencing construction on this exciting project in early 2015."
The facility, described as community and sports hub of the future is located in Cockburn Central West, a fast growing area in southern metropolitan Perth.
