Comment invited on plans for Wet 'n' Wild Sydney
Plans for the proposed $80 million Wet 'n' Wild Sydney waterpark have been on display for public comment.
Local newspaper The Blacktown Sun reported that a NSW Department of Planning spokesman said the applicant, Village Roadshow, had responded to all its requests for information and that the proposal was now being assessed.
The spokesperson declined to say when a decision would be made.
The planned waterpark received mixed responses when plans were revealed last year.
The western Sydney business community, the Blacktown Youth Advisory Subcommittee, the NSW Government, Blacktown Council and the Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils supported the plan but groups including the Blacktown and District Historical Society, the Mt Druitt Historical Society, Friends of St Bartholomew and the Blacktown and District Environment Group expressed doubts.
Village Roadshow's plan are for the waterpark to be built on a 25 hectare site in Prospect, close to Sydney's M4 and M7 motorways. 1.2 million residents living within 20 kilometres of the site.
Village have secured a long-term lease on NSW Government owned land that will be rezoned for recreation.
It is expected to be ready to open in the summer of 2013.
Village predict the waterpark will attract up to 900,000 visits each year.
