Moonee Valley and BlueFit agree public-private partnership for investment in Riverside Sport and Recreation Precinct

Moonee Valley City Council has announced that it has entered into a groundbreaking agreement which will see significant capital investment in the Riverside Sport and Recreation Precinct located in the Melbourne suburb of Ascot Vale.

The public-private partnership (PPP) with aquatic and sport facility management company BlueFit will see a $10.8 million capital investment in the Riverside Golf and Sports Centre, resolving long standing infrastructure issues and realising a major activation of the precinct.

With the golf driving range sited alongside netball and tennis courts, the current proximity creates a risk to users of overhitting from the golf driving range - meaning operations have to be scheduled, with patrons being unable to use the facilities at the same time.

Advising that the partnership creates a unique opportunity for private investment, which will ultimately improve the facilities and resolve the operational issues that restrict usage, Moonee Valley Mayor, Pierce Tyson explained “this is an innovative approach to ensuring the community can access these important facilities without Council investing the significant capital this type of upgrade would require.

“The partnership is underpinned by a 20-year management contract, which enables Council to oversee operations and ensure the community’s needs are met.

“The concept plans propose a modern, upgraded golf driving range, playgrounds and active spaces, an upgraded mini golf course, improved access and pathways and facilities to encourage both seasoned and beginner golfers, as well as hospitality opportunities.”

BlueFit Chief Executive, Todd McHardy noted “the team at BlueFit are thrilled with the announcement of a long term partnership with the Moonee Valley City Council and the development of the Riverside Golf and Sports Centre. Our investment will further improve this great local sports and social hub for the benefit of all facility users and clubs.”

The Council has previously undertaken community consultation on the Riverside Sport and Recreation Precinct Plan.
