Market interest sought for Hobart ice rink following Otium Planning’s feasibility study
Private operators, developers and investors are being invited to lodge their credentials so the Tasmanian Government can actively sound out market interest for a new ice rink in Hobart following Otium Planning’s 2024 'Tasmania Ice Rink Feasibility Study'.
The Tasmanian Government has put the call out for investors as it moves closer to a formal expressions of interest for the new rink.
Tasmanian Minister for Sports and Events, Nick Duigan, said the Government wants to hear from interested parties with experience in delivering similar facilities who have the capacity to take on this significant project.
Minister Duigan noted “since the privately-operated Glenorchy rink closed in mid-2022, the Tasmanian Government has been working to identify opportunities for a new venue that can host ice sports practice, competitions and recreational skating.
“We’ve been working hard behind the scenes with our sporting sector bodies and we’re now seeking interest from potential investors to build a new facility.”
The Tasmania Ice Rink Feasibility Study was prepared by Otium Planning in June 2024 and found there was demand for around 75,000 visits to an ice rink each year, demonstrating ongoing viability of the facility.
Events Tasmania, the Tasmanian Government, Local Government Authorities within the Greater Hobart region, Ice Sports Tasmania, and Australian Ice Rink Operators provided their expertise and input to the Tasmania Ice Rink Feasibility Study.
Minister Duigan added “we encourage interested parties to register their interest now ahead of a formal Expressions of Interest process, subject to demand, to be released in early 2025.
“Under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, our Government will continue to deliver community sporting infrastructure for all Tasmanians."
