Aotea Square ice rink opens

A program of mid-winter fun is now available in Auckland with the opening of the Aotea Square Ice Rink and Ice slide.

Operating from Friday 17th June to Sunday 24th July, the attraction features life size polar bears, penguins, and seals will set the scene for the return of the sparkling ice rink and exhilarating 35-metre-long double-laned ice slide.

Operating for the fifth year running, the winter wonderland festivities are expected to attract over 20,000 people to Aotea Square during its six week programme providing inner city excitement for the young and young at heart.

The Penguin Kids Zone lets youngsters find their feet in a smaller enclosed area, before taking to the ice in the main rink. Helmets are available free of charge and skating frames are available for hire.

The Wild on Ice event (18th and 19th June) will see $1 for every skater donated to the Auckland Zoo Conservation Fund, working to protect New Zealand’s native birds and seals.

The excitement continues with the Ice Age: Collision Course Party (2nd and 3rd July), with the Aotea Ice Rink linking with the launch of the latest movie in the Ice Age franchise (in cinemas from 7th July).

Packages offering exclusive use of the ice rink, that include helmets, frames and skates for up to 100 people are also available.

Aotea Square Ice Rink is made from 100% ice and fully covered for all weather.
