QR National backs Tinkler's Jets and Knights

The Hunter Sports Group (HSG) has announced that QR National has signed a major three-year sponsorship across the Group.

QR National will be a major partner of both the Newcastle Knights and Newcastle Jets with the QR National logo appearing on both teams' shorts. The partnership also includes a number of community engagement programs such as rail safety for children, as well as scholarships, health and well-being programs and volunteer recognition programs.

QR National is Australia's largest rail freight company with services operating across five states. In 2010/11, the company transported more than 240 million tonnes of freight, including coal, iron ore, other minerals, agricultural products and general freight. It also operates and manages the 2,300 kilometre Central Queensland coal network that links mines to coal ports at Bowen, Mackay and Gladstone.

HSG Chief Executive Troy Palmer stated "we are pleased to welcome QR National to the Hunter Sports Group family.

"(The) announcement signifies a huge commitment to the Hunter Sports Group by a well-known and iconic brand in QR National.

"It is also significant for the Hunter region, as QR National are very important to the Hunter mining industry and a major employer and contributor to the economy."

QR National Managing Director and Chief Executive Lance Hockridge joined players and officials from both teams at Newcastle's Ausgrid Stadium to make the announcement.

QR National join an impressive list of sponsors across the Knights and Jets including Hunter Ports, nib, Klosters, Wests, ISC, McDonald's, Coca-Cola, NBN, The Herald, Tooheys and CUB.
