Singapore hosted seven million visitors in the first half of 2012
Singapore played host to about 7.1 million international visitors from January to June, 11% more than the same period last year.
According to the Q2 report on tourism performance, released by the Singapore Tourism Board The country's top five international visitor-generating markets for that period were Indonesia (1.36 million), China (978,000), Malaysia (589,000), India (478,000) and Australia (477,000).
These markets accounted for 55% of the total international visitor arrivals for the second quarter.
For the top 15 markets in the year to date, China and Japan were among those with the strongest growth - 29% and 21%, respectively drawn by Singapore's growing number of leisure attractions.
Tourism receipts from January to June came in at S$11.5 billion, with 7% growth over the same period last year.
Meanwhile, tourism receipts for Q2 were estimated at $5.5 billion, registering 4% growth over the same period last year.
For the quarter, all tourism components registered growth over the same period last year, except for sightseeing & entertainment, which includes gambling.
