Making a splash at Potter’s Park in Auckland
Since opening in late 2012, Auckland’s first public splashpad in Potter’s Park has been a massive success with locals and park users gaining acclaim for giving the park a new lease of life.
Commissioned by the Albert-Eden Local Board and installed by Playrope New Zealand, the zero-depth Vortex Aquatic Playgrounds splashpad features ground sprays, fountains and an array of different ways to get wet.
With more people using playground and grass areas than in previous years, Albert-Eden Local Board Chair Dr Peter Haynes explains “improving our parks so more people enjoy them is one of the Board’s priorities.
“This splashpad, Auckland’s first full-size one, is a huge success.”
This facility is part of the implementation of City Visions policies to make Auckland more child and family focussed.
Dr Haynes adds “this (is) the first real splashpad in the city and is a great example of the boards priority to improve park access and enhance local parks.”
An additional feature is the Vortex LED illumination. At dusk, the lights turn the Splashpad® into a spectacular art piece which glows with multi-coloured illuminated visual effects amplified by the ground sprays.
