Madame Tussauds Sydney partners with Leukaemia Foundation for World’s Greatest Shave
Madame Tussauds Sydney is helping to raise vital funds for Australians living with blood cancer by having some of their popular celebrity wax figures - Jimmy Barnes, Dannii Minogue, Amanda Keller, Curtis Stone, and Dylan Alcott – undergo their biggest hair transformations.
As part of the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave, these ‘wax celebrities’ will have their hair overhauled with Chris Tanti, Chief Executive Leukaemia Foundation enthusing “we’re very excited to partner with Madame Tussauds Sydney as they create something very special for this year’s World’s Greatest Shave.
“This attraction, featuring inspiring and well-known Australians like Jimmy, Danni, Amanda, Curtis, and Dylan, will be unlike anything we’ve ever seen in the 26 years of the campaign.
“It’s incredible to have the support of Madame Tussauds in this unique way, and we can’t wait to see the public’s reaction to the massive hair makeovers given to each celebrity.”
Madame Tussauds Sydney will host the World’s Greatest Shave Experience from 15th to 18th February with the public invited to head along and see it for themselves.
Chris Harvey, Head of Operations, Madame Tussauds Sydney added “this is the first time in our history, that Madame Tussauds Sydney has given a hair transformation to iconic Australian celebrities such as these,” said Chris Harvey, Head of Operations, Madame Tussauds Sydney.
“To partner with a trusted charity like the Leukaemia Foundation, which is synonymous with supporting Australians living with blood cancer, is a great honour for Madame Tussauds.
“We look forward to helping to raise some much-needed awareness of blood cancer, as well as funds for the thousands of Australians impacted by this horrible disease.”
Along with the World’s Greatest Shave Experience, professional hair stylists including from major campaign partners, Just Cuts, will be available from 11.00am to 2.00pm over the four days to shave, cut, or colour (with spray) the public’s hair for a minimum donation of $20.00, accompanied by 25% discount on the entry ticket to Madame Tussauds Sydney.
According to the Leukaemia Foundation, there are more people diagnosed with blood cancer now than ever, with the incidence of blood cancer soaring by 47% in Australia, in the past decade.
Tanti shared “Every single strand of hair that Australians, and wax figures alike, change – whether they choose to shave, cut, or colour, this World’s Greatest Shave – is going to help champion change for the 53 Australians diagnosed with blood cancer today.
“There is an urgent need for increased support, additional resources, and ultimately more funds needed to assist the growing number of Australians impacted by blood cancer.
“Funds raised through World’s Greatest Shave and activations like this with Madame Tussauds Sydney, will go towards providing vital support for those Australians diagnosed, as well as funding life-changing blood cancer research.”
Since 2000, the Leukaemia Foundation has funded over 360 blood cancer research grants, representing over $86.5 million in blood cancer research funding in today’s current dollar value.
The funding is helping to make significant strides into finding better and more targeted treatment options for Australians living with blood cancer, with the hope of one day finding a cure.
The Madame Tussauds Sydney World’s Greatest Shave Experience will be open from Thursday 15 to Sunday 18th February. For more information or to purchase tickets, go to madametussauds.com/Sydney and search World’s Greatest Shave.
