Madame Tussauds opens in Tokyo

Madame Tussauds has opened the latest branch of its world famous wax museums at Decks Beach Mall in Tokyo, Japan.

The 14th Madame Tussauds attraction, and the fifth in the region, following sites in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Sydney, the opening is part of Merlin Entertainments' ongoing expansion in Asia.

Spanning 2,000 metre2, the attraction presents over 60 life-like figures with a large collection of popular world celebrities including Hollywood legends, sporting heroes, historical icons and Japanese celebrities.

As with all Madame Tussauds around the world, the waxworks at the Tokyo attraction are unique to its location, reflecting the culture, people, history and colour of the City.

Merlin Creative Director Paul Moreton explains "Madame Tussauds is one of our most popular and important global attraction brands - particularly in Asia Pacific - one of Merlin's key development areas."

The opening saw members of Japanese metal band X Japan celebrate the unveiling of their own sculptures, each of which took four months and ¥21 million to create.

A further Madame Tussauds is scheduled to open in Wuhan, China, later this year.
