Merlin takes on Siam Ocean World, confirms Madame Tussauds Sydney opening

Merlin Entertainments Group has taken over the management of Siam Ocean World, the biggest aquarium in Southeast Asia, after its acquisition of former owner the Living and Leisure Australia Group.

Located at Siam Paragon in Bangkok, Ocean World has 10,000 metres2 of space and hundreds of different marine species on display in a five-million-litre aquarium.

In a statement the company explained "this not only underlines Merlin's position as the world's premier aquarium operator with its Sea Life brand but also complements the company's other fast-growing business in the city - the iconic Madame Tussauds Bangkok wax attraction at Siam Centre."

Merlin is looking to make a significant investment to improve the aquarium and the local team, along with Merlin's global marine experts, will be working on these plans in coming months.

Linking the Siam Ocean World and Madame Tussauds Bangkok offers a number of management and commercial benefits and provides a platform for Merlin to develop joint marketing activities.

Meanwhile, Madame Tussauds Sydney will officially open its doors in Sydney's Darling Harbour on Monday 16th April.

Featuring over 70 fascinating wax figures including some of Australia's most loved personalities this will be the first Madame Tussauds in Australia, the 13th Madame Tussauds attraction opened worldwide and the fifth of its kind in the Asia Pacific region.
