Mackay Regional Council announces pool closures as part of upgrade and maintenance program
Mackay Regional Council has announced a series of staggered closures of four of its aquatic facilities over the cooler months for scheduled maintenance.
The Memorial Swim Centre, Bluewater Lagoon and Mirani Swim Centre have been earmarked for detailed maintenance schedules while the Pioneer Swim Centre will be fitted with a heating system over the closure.
Sarina and Mirani pools closed last Friday (19th April), Memorial will close for the month of May, Pioneer will close from 1st June and the Bluewater Lagoon will close from 15th July.
The new aquatic centre at the Mackay ARC will remain open.
Advising that the Council would be making the most of the closures to tackle some issues raised by the public and perform upgrades, Mackay Regional Councillor Ross Gee stated "we have a detailed maintenance list for Memorial Pool that we will work through over the closure.
“Memorial is getting a new heating unit, we are repainting the 50 metre pool shell and concourse, and we are inspecting and fixing tiles throughout the facility.
"The bathrooms and amenities are also scheduled for repairs and an aesthetic upgrade.”
Councillor Gee said when Pioneer Swim Centre reopens in June it would have a heated pool thanks to a new heating system being installed over the closure.
He added "this will give swimmers north of the river an attractive option over the cooler months."
