Mackay Regional Council seeks managers for two aquatic centres
Mackay Regional Council is seeking expressions of interests for the opportunity to manage both Pioneer and Memorial Swim Centres.
The proposal to seek expressions stems from recommendations made in council's Open Space, Sport and Recreation (OSSR) Strategy 2010-16.
Mackay Regional Council Mayor Deirdre Comerford said the strategy, adopted in late 2010, provides a framework for council, stating "we have a responsibility to our community to examine the most suitable model for managing these centres to ensure the needs and expectations of our community are being met.
"This process will enable us to test the waters and see if there are better options available for Pioneer and Memorial as well as our users."
Council Sports, Recreation and Facilities portfolio Councillor Paul Steindl said Council had been making steady headway on a number of recommendations from the adopted strategy for the aquatic facilities, adding "the EOI will be advertised shortly and all proposals will be assessed for the best outcome for the community."
The Council currently leases out its Mirani and Sarina Pools.
The OSSR Strategy incorporated an 18 month consultation period before being adopted in 2010.
The strategy is available to be viewed on council's website.
