LIWA Aquatics honours Wendy Cole with 2025 Smith Robertson Award

The Leisure Institute of Western Australia (Aquatics) has announced Wendy Cole as the recipient of the 2025 Smith Robertson Award, one of the highest honours in the aquatic and recreation industry.

Named in recognition of two foundational figures in the industry, Fred Smith and John Robertson, the award celebrates individuals who have made an outstanding and enduring contribution to the aquatic industry in Western Australia.

It recognises long-standing service, leadership, and a legacy of excellence - honouring those who have helped shape the standards, culture, and future direction of our industry.

In a statement, LIWA Aquatics advised "Wendy’s career is a testament to these values.

"A member of LIWA Aquatics for more than 34 years, she is one of the few to have achieved the 30-year service award, which she attained in 2021.

" While she began her journey at the Morawa Swimming Pool, Wendy became a familiar and respected figure at the City of Mandurah’s Aquatic Centre from 2002 onwards.

"Over the years, she has been a constant presence through major facility renovations, program expansions and growing community patronage - always as a leader, mentor and trusted colleague."

The award was presented at LIWA Aquatics' 2025 Western Australian Aquatic Recreation Industry Awards on Thursday evening, attended by 270 people and hosted by Simon Beaumont.

Among other awards presented, Stirling Leisure - Inglewood was named Facility of the Year, Claremont Aquatic Centre won the 2025 Sustainability Award while the 2025 Watch Around Water Facility was won by Cannington and Riverton Leisureplex (Metropolitan) and the Coorow Aquatic Centre (Regional).
