LIWA Aquatics launches 2025 WA Aquatic Recreation Industry Awards program

Looking to highlight and award excellence among Individuals and organisations within Western Australia’s aquatic recreation industry, LIWA Aquatics has announced that entries are open for the 2025 Western Australia Aquatic Recreation Industry Awards.

Introducing the awards, LIWA Aquatics advise “the awards are designed to highlight and award excellence of Individuals within the aquatic recreation industry, aquatic facilities, their staff and organisations and provide an opportunity to formally recognise their commitment to improving aquatic recreation communities, programs, facility operations, management and safety.

“The awards provide a powerful motivation tool to encourage ongoing professional development for individual, and organisations and building community engagement.”

Nominations for the Awards are now open and close on Friday 22nd May 2025.

The Awards will be presented during the LIWA Aquatics 2025 Conference and Trade Show at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre in August.

The program’s 10 awards span multiple categories, each highlighting significant contributions and achievements within the aquatic recreation industry.

Facility of the Year - new award
Recognising facilities that demonstrate innovation in design, development, and/or operation, making a significant impact on their communities.
The award is open to both new facilities and existing facilities across Western Australia.

Aquatic Facility Safety Award
Acknowledging facilities that demonstrate outstanding safety culture and continuous improvement in aquatic health and safety outcomes.

Aquatic Technical Operator of the Year
Celebrating individual excellence in customer service, safety, and facility management.

Community Impact Award
Honouring facility-based programs that enhance community well-being through access, inclusion, and support for healthier lifestyles.

Emerging Leader of the Year
Recognises young leaders (aged 18-30) showing passion, motivation, and potential leadership in the industry.

Pool Lifeguard of the Year
Honours lifeguards for their excellence in customer service, lifeguarding skills, and leadership

Sustainability Award
This award recognises excellence in the performance of sustainability practices in the built environment, relating to the management and incremental improvement of energy and resource management and operational practices.

Swim School of the Year
Recognises swim schools excelling in programming, customer service, risk management, and community involvement.

Swim Teacher of the Year
Celebrates teachers who show commitment, professionalism, and excellence in aquatic education and safety.

Watch Around Water Facility of the Year
This award celebrates excellence in achieving the objectives of the Watch Around Water program, which focuses on promoting water safety for young children. It acknowledges facilities or individuals who effectively implement and uphold the program’s key principles, ensuring a safe and supervised aquatic environment.

LIWA Aquatics has also announced a call for abstracts for its 2025 WA Aquatic and Recreation Conference.

It is seeking industry professionals, experts and thought leaders to present across four conference streams:

• Facility Planning
