Life Saving Victoria report shows Y Victoria leading in safety and compliance

Life Saving Victoria’s 2023-24 Sector Safety Report has shown YMCA Victoria (the Y) to be maintaining its position as a leader in safety and compliance within the aquatic and recreation industry.

Y Victoria outperformed other Victorian facilities in both compliance and safety, cementing its position as the industry leader for another consecutive year.

The most recent Sector Safety Report revealed that Y Victoria surpassed the state average in compliance and safety for the 2023-24 season - marking a continued upward trajectory, reflecting a 3.9% improvement in compliance and a 2.8% improvement in safety from the previous year.

Paul McPherson, Y Victoria’s Head of Operations – Recreation, proudly welcomed the latest report and advised “It is incredibly rewarding to see the Y consistently recognised for our commitment to safety. This accomplishment reflects our relentless focus on providing inclusive and secure environments for communities across Victoria. Whether in metropolitan areas or regional hubs, our pools are places where everyone can feel safe and active. We will continue to set higher standards across the industry to ensure the safety of our patrons and staff remains paramount.”

The Pool Safety Assessment (PSA) process plays a critical role in shaping the safety standards of aquatic facilities. Through these evaluations, Y Victoria continues to lead with best practices, helping shape safer and more reliable community spaces across Victoria.

With a range of facilities taking part in the PSA, Y Victoria’s performance was strong across key areas, including Emergency Planning, First Aid, and Supervision, where scores consistently surpassed 98%.

The Y remains committed to providing safe, inclusive, and active spaces for everyone to enjoy.

The Y is a community not-for-profit organisation with a vision to create a better tomorrow where all people can belong. Their service lines include camps, children's programs, recreation centres, action sports programs, youth services and more. For more information head to victoria.ymca.org.au
