Legoland Malaysia announces September opening date

Asia's first Legoland® theme park, Legoland® Malaysia, is to be officially opened on Saturday 15th September 2012.

The new 76-acre theme park, Merlin Entertainments Group first Legoland® park in Asia, aims to for children from two to 12 years old with more than 40 rides and attractions - from roller coasters to race cars as well as family-focused interactive shows.

In accouncing the opening date, Legolandï® Malaysia General Manager Siegfried Boers explained "our official opening date has been something we've had a lot of enquiries from the public on since the park broke ground in December 2009.

"I'm pleased to announce that due to the hard work of all of our contractors we will now be opening Legoland® Malaysia ahead of schedule by a number of months. We hope that with (this) news families and tour operators will begin planning their trips to visit us and we look forward to giving you an experience like no other in Asia. Rather appropriately we will be opening the day before Malaysia Day which happens to be a long weekend."

The park is now approximately 75% finished with most of the rides and infrastructure already installed. Last month the contractors began work on the theming of the park and next month they will begin the installation of 50 million Lego® bricks and models into the park.

Boerst also announced that the over 35,000 annual park passes had already been sold and that official park single-day tickets will go on sale online later next month.

These tickets will be priced at a special introductory offer of RM96 (SGD40) for adults and RM70 (SGD29) for children.

It has also been announced that a joint venture between the Merlin Entertainments Group, LL Themed Hotel SdnBhd and IskandarHarta Holdings SdnBhd (IskandarHarta), will develop and build the first Legoland® Hotel adjacent to the park.

The fourth Legoland® hotel in the world will be sited at Nusajaya Johor and is scheduled to open its doors in the first half of 2014.

The themed Hotel will be strategically located on 2.4 acres of land and will be easily accessible from the Senai International Airport, Johor Bahru with just a 20-minute drive, or alternatively, for those coming from Singapore, a convenient 10-minute drive via the Second Link Expressway.

Legoland® Parks are based on the universally popular Lego® construction toy range and offer families the opportunity to bond, learn and push the boundaries of their imaginations through Lego® experiences.
