G21 Geelong Region Alliance delivers revitalised regional Football Strategy

The G21 Geelong Region Alliance has advised on the delivery of a revitalised Regional Football Strategy (2023-2033). The Strategy has just been noted by all five LGAs and the G21 Geelong Region Alliance Board.

G21 - Geelong Region Alliance (G21) is the formal alliance of government, business and community organisations working together to improve the lives of people within the Geelong region across five municipalities – Colac Otway, Golden Plains, Greater Geelong, Queenscliffe and Surf Coast.

The Strategy, a visionary roadmap for the future of football (soccer) development across the G21 region for the next decade, is an initiative of Football Victoria and was developed in collaboration with G21 Health and Wellbeing Pillar. This strategy outlines key findings, current trends and strategic priorities for football (soccer) within the G21 five municipalities.

The Strategy, informed by a facilities audit, participation data and extensive stakeholder engagement, including the active involvement of the five participating councils, Project Control Group, Project Reference Group, and local agencies, sets out to guide the planning and development of football (soccer) for the region. It builds upon the success achieved since the inception of the original regional strategy.

Since the initial 2012 Strategy, approximately $54 million in infrastructure funding has been generated and more than 80% of strategic actions achieved.

The new Strategy introduces an updated framework to ensure football “is on track to kick its goals by 2033”.

Over the next ten years, it aims to enhance facilities, promote inclusivity and foster a lifelong love for the game among players of all ages and background.

The G21 Geelong Region Alliance thanked Football Victoria, City of Greater Geelong, Surf Coast Shire Council, Colac Otway Shire Council, and Golden Plains Shire Council “for all the hard work”.
