Knox Leisureworks gym to open as 24/7 hour facility

The Knox Leisureworks aquatic and fitness facility in the Melbourne suburb of Boronia is set to change the opening hours of its gym to become a 24/7 facility.

Aiming to provide flexibility for members to exercise at a time that suits them, the move is the latest innovation at Knox City Council’s flagship aquatic, fitness and recreation centre, and follows the recent introduction of Virtual Group Fitness classes, further increasing exercise options and training times for members.

Knox City Mayor John Mortimore said the move to 24/7 gym access is consistent with the Council’s focus on increasing access and availability to community recreational facilities, explaining “better access is the goal with the move to 24 hours.

“This is in line with creating flexible choices for the whole community, especially those who may usually struggle to find the time.

“We want to encourage everyone in our community to be more active, so providing 24 hour access to a safe and friendly environment like Knox Leisureworks will help more people to realise this goal.”

The Knox Community and Council Plan 2017-2021 highlights that being active and participating in leisure and sport can increase the community’s sense of wellbeing, social interaction and physical fitness, as well as reducing anxiety, stress and the likelihood of illness.

Knox Leisureworks has undergone a comprehensive risk assessment and members will be provided with individual access cards that include safety measures for times that the gym is unstaffed.

Knox Leisureworks was recently named Health Club of the Year at the 2018 Aquatics and Recreation Victoria industry awards.
