Kim Williams named new AFL Commissioner
Former News Corp Australia Chief Executive Kim Williams has been nominated to join the AFL Commission as the replacement for retired Commissioner Chris Lynch.
The nomination was confirmed yesterday afternoon (Monday 17th February) following a meeting of Commissioners in Sydney.
Williams will stand for election on 4th March annual general meeting, with current Commissioners Linda Dessau and Richard Goyder re-nominating and standing unopposed.
Williams joins the Commission at a time when his extensive media experience will be an asset leading into the game's next set of media rights negotiations.
Lynch offered his resignation from the Commission in March last year after moving overseas when he was appointed Chief Financial Officer of Rio Tinto.
However, the League did not accept his resignation with Lynch, who is now based in London, being deemed a very valuable member of the Commission.
Prior to heading News Corp Australia, Williams was headed the development of Sydney's Fox Studios and as he moved about News' corporate ladder he headed Fox Sports Australia.
