2019 Sydney Royal Easter Show welcomes 900,000 visitors

The 2019 Sydney Royal Easter Show, hosted by the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW, has reported an attendance of 900,000 visitors, once again highlighting the pivotal role agriculture plays in the health and wealth of the community, bringing a taste of life on the land to the city.

Advising that the Show had a proud tradition of fostering competition, offering world-class entertainment and celebrating country traditions, Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RASNSW) President Robert Ryan stated "this year we’ve had 25,000 entrants competing across 5,500 competition classes, covering all breeds of animals, wine, food, dairy, horticulture and art, with more than 19,000 awards proudly presented.

“The Show provides a valuable opportunity to promote agricultural excellence in NSW to all walks of life and it’s been encouraging to see showgoers interacting with exhibitors and competitors keen to learn more about life on the land.

“A great example of this has been the more than 3000 Ag Bags sold, raising $60,000 for the RAS Foundation’s Community Futures Grant program to support projects in rural and regional New South Wales."

The Big Bush BBQ a sausage sizzle with a purpose was held each day of the Show where different NSW show societies helped out and with the proceeds going to support agricultural shows across the state.

Highlights of the 2019 Show included:

  • 1.6 million showbags sold

  • 50,000 scones made by the CWA

  • 22,000 riders on The Beast

  • More than 3000 volunteers keeping the Show on the road

  • Over 14,000 animals on site during the 12 days

  • 400 animals at any one time in the Farmyard Nursery and over 1000 baby animals

  • 100 hours of competition in the woodchop with 240 competitors from across five countries chopping through more than 4000 blocks

  • 15,000 cheese toasties, 300 custard bombs and 200 unicorn buns sold each day
