Kids Dash run kicks off 2024 Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon’s festive weekend
Over 5,500 children, along with their parents, have signed up to the Kids Dash at the 2024 Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) this year, marking a 10% increase in registrations compared to last year.
Flagged off yesterday from Singapore’s F1 Pit Building, the first event of the Singapore Marathon weekend introduced children to the world of running with two race categories - a 600-metre race for participants aged six and under, and a 900-metre race for those aged seven to 12.
Adding to the festivities, a Kids Village featured fun activities like human foosball, game booths, bouncy castles with plenty of delicious treats like cotton candy and popcorn and more, was opened to the public for a day of family-friendly excitement.
Commenting on the events, Guinness World Record holder and para-athlete, Dr Zac Leow stated “I’m thrilled to be back at the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon, and this time, I’m especially happy to be here with my daughter.
“She thoroughly enjoyed the run and I’m sure she’d be eager to return next year.
“Running has given me so much, and I’m grateful that I get to share this passion and experience with her.”
Dr Leow accomplished the record as the fastest male para-athlete marathoner at the SCSM 2023, smashing the CI1 (men) para-classification marathon world record with a remarkable time of 4 hours, 51 minutes and 59 seconds. He ended the race on a sweet note as he celebrated the win on his daughter’s birthday.
Runners were also treated to a curated set of race-day entitlements that included a race bib, a running tee, a Kids Dash gift, a finisher’s medal, and light refreshments. Additionally, as part of a collaboration with the Singapore Flyer, kids with an SCSM race bib enjoyed free admission to the Singapore Flyer and Time Capsule with every full-priced adult ticket purchased.
The promotion will run from 29th November to 8th December 2024, and parents could present their child’s race bib at ticket counters to redeem the offer.
The weekend-long festivities continue with the 5km and 10km race categories today (30th November), followed by the Half Marathon (21.1km) and Marathon (42.195km) on 1st December 2024.
