Kai Tak Sports Park to host 2025 Hong Kong Sevens

Hong Kong China Rugby (HKCR) has today announced that the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2025 will be held at the Kai Tak Sports Park from 28th to 30th March next year.

The three-day event at the 50,000 capacity Kai Tak Stadium, will see the new venue put to the test in providing a contemporary sport venue experience for rugby teams and fans worldwide and will be one of the first major international sports events at the Park’s opening period.

In a statement, KTSP advised that it “has been working closely with the HKCR and relevant Government departments to ensure the smooth execution of this globally renowned sports event at the Park”, adding “we look forward to providing rugby teams and passionate fans from around the world with a world-class sports venue experience, aiming to elevate this iconic Sevens event to new heights.”

Advising that the event will mark a significant milestone in Hong Kong’s sports legacy and that it will boost local tourism and entertainment, Kai Tak Sports Park (KTSP) Project Director, John Sharkey advised “the Hong Kong Sevens is a renowned global sports event, attracting elite teams and players from around the world while captivating fans with thrilling competitions.

“As Hong Kong’s home venue, we are truly honoured and excited to host this globally prominent sports event at KTSP. For Hong Kong, this sporting occasion not only promotes the development of local rugby but also showcases the city’s capability to host world-class events, enhancing its status as a mega events capital.”

The Kai Tak Stadium is also one of the few venues globally designed specifically for rugby sevens, featuring more than 20 changing rooms to accommodate the needs of the multiple teams, referees and other personnel involved in Sevens matches, along with dedicated dining and rest areas for players.

These special arrangements are expected to help in attracting more world-class teams to compete in Hong Kong, creating significant opportunities for sports development.

Additionally, the Kai Tak Stadium is equipped with a soundproof retractable roof, allowing events to proceed regardless of weather conditions. The Stadium’s bowl cooling system ensures a comfortable viewing experience from every single seat, thereby enhancing guest satisfaction.

The Hong Kong Sevens were previously held at the 40,000 capacity Hong Kong Stadium.

KTSP now accepting Group Venue Bookings
In preparation for the official opening, the ASM Global-managed venue is now accepting group booking for major events. The goal is to establish KTSP as a new landmark for large-scale integrated sports and entertainment in Hong Kong.
