Jamberoo Action Park achieves world record for Australia's newest 'Big Thing'

Jamberoo Action Park’s giant Funnel Web Spider, the latest addition to Australia’s proud list of ‘Big Things’, has been recognised with a Guinness World Record as world’s Largest Spider Sculpture.

Standing a 19.7 metres to its highest leg, 22.2 metres wide and 15 metres in length, the Big Funnel Web, which stands next to Funnel Web raft ride, is 3.7 metres taller than Queensland’s The Big Pineapple, 4.5 metres taller than The Big Merino in Goulburn (15.2 metres) and is only half a metres shorter than The Great Sphinx of Egypt.

Completed earlier this year from steel, fibreglass and concrete, the themed Big Spider that is 420 times larger than the female Sydney Funnel Web.

The ride first opened in December 2012 with construction of the sculptured spider commencing in February 2014, being completed 12 months later in February 2015. It was officially measured in July and approved by the Guinness World Records team early this month.

Commenting on the recognition, Jamberoo Action Park’s Executive Director Dax Eddy stated “receiving a Guinness World Record for building The Big Funnel Web is tremendous recognition and something that will really excite our guests this season.

“Completing the Big Funnel Web was a real labour of love, as it took us over 12 months to construct at a cost of over $250,000.”

“This amazing Big Spider themeing compliments one of the greatest water thrill ride experiences that you’ll get anywhere in the world.”

Jamberoo Action Park opens for the 2015/16 summer season as of tomorrow – Saturday 19th September.
