Gymnastics Australia appoints Stephen Foley as new General Manager High Performance and Wellbeing

Gymnastics Australia has appointed triple Olympian, Stephen Foley as General Manager High Performance and Wellbeing – a critical leadership position aimed at driving the organisation’s pursuit of international success and athlete wellbeing as part of the INSPIRE 2032 strategic plan.

Foley’s appointment reflects Gymnastics Australia’s ongoing commitment to delivering a world-class high performance system while embedding a strong culture of care, excellence and sustainability across all levels of the sport.

Foley brings a wealth of experience in high performance sport, having led the Australian, USA and Great Britain diving programs to medal-winning success. With a distinguished career that spans roles as an athlete, coach, high performance director and TV commentator, he has attended every Summer Olympic Games since 1976.

As a triple Olympian and representative at the Commonwealth Games and World Championships, Foley brings unparalleled insight into elite sport and the systems that support athletes to thrive.

Gymnastics Australia Chief Executive, Alistair Edgar noted “Stephen’s track record of building medal-winning programs and fostering positive high performance cultures makes him a tremendous asset to Gymnastics Australia at a time when we are raising the bar in both performance and athlete wellbeing.

“He brings a wealth of international expertise, strategic leadership and a proven ability to work together with others in pursuit of common goals.

“In his new role, Foley will lead Gymnastics Australia’s high-performance strategy, working closely with our network of dedicated athlete, coaches, clubs and programs across the country. He will oversee athlete and coach development, performance pathways, and wellbeing initiatives in the lead up to Los Angeles 2028 and building the foundations for success at Brisbane 2032.”

I’m passionate about building environments where athletes can reach their full potential – both in performance and personal development – and I look forward to working closely with our network of amazing coaches and incredible athletes to deliver sustained success on the international stage.”

As he commences in the role, Foley will be on the floor at the upcoming Australian Gymnastics Championships, where he looks forward to seeing Australia’s top gymnasts in action and spending time listening to athletes and coaches as part of his commitment to building strong, informed and collaborative working relationships.

This appointment marks a significant step in delivering on the INSPIRE 2032 national gymnastics strategy, reinforcing Gymnastics Australia’s ambition to achieve international success.
