Goulburn to host 2022 retro-futuristic Steampunk Victoriana Fair
The NSW Regional Events Acceleration Fund is enabling Goulburn to once again host the retro-futuristic Steampunk Victoriana Fair on 12th and 13th March 2022, with revellers flocking to see Victorian-era themed games, costumes, steam engines, food and entertainment.
The NSW Government funding will help this year’s Steampunk event deliver a bigger program, including temporary infrastructure for attendees, a pop-up camping area and an outdoor movie cinema.
NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW Paul Toole notes “since the event’s conception, Steampunk Victoriana Fair has been incredibly popular and I’m excited that it will run again on 12th and 13th March 2022 after having to reschedule because of COVID-19 and travel restrictions.
“The 2022 Steampunk Victoriana Fair will host a larger range of activities across multiple venues and will be launched with a spectacular outdoor fire show on the Friday evening, followed by two days of music, food, parades and entertainment.
“This a great economic driver for Goulburn each year and the funding will also help to set up a pop-up camp area for tourists who are expected to travel from far and wide to join in the festivities.”
Local State Member for Goulburn, Wendy Tuckerman said “hosting major events like the Steampunk Victoriana Fair puts more heads on beds and fills restaurants, cafes and tourist attractions, which drives regional NSW’s economic recovery from bushfire, floods, drought and COVID- 19.
“The NSW Government’s $60,000 support for the Steampunk Victoriana Fair will allow even more visitors to experience the event in Goulburn and our wonderful visitor attractions. It also will allow the event organisers to showcase more local producers and businesses.
“This exciting event entices visitors to experience all the delights that Goulburn has to offer, putting our region on the map as a one-of-a-kind tourist destination.”
Steampunk Victoriana Fair’s Event Organiser Julianne Salway said the Regional Events Acceleration Fund grant will reinvigorate the major local event and encourage even more visitors from around Australia to attend the annual iconic event.
“We’re busy preparing for this year’s Fair and we look forward to welcoming back all of our splendid Steampunk supporters to the Goulburn Historic Waterworks,” Salway said.
The $40 million Regional Events Acceleration Fund is part of the $2 billion Regional Growth Fund, designed to support growing regional centres, activate local economies and improve services and community infrastructure for regional communities.
