Goulburn Council lends financial supports for sporting and musical events

Goulburn Mulwaree Council is supporting a number of events with both financial and in-kind assistance under its Event Development Funding Policy.

There are two streams of funding available under the Policy which aims to ensure that Council strategically considers its involvement in funding and supporting event development, while encouraging event organisers to work towards sustainable event operations without on-going reliance on Council funds or support.

The Goulburn Cycle Club has gained $1,500 in financial assistance from the Sports Tourism Funding Stream of the Policy. The money will assist in staging the Goulburn Junior 2 Day Tour taking place on 1st-2nd May 2021.

A further $5,000 in financial assistance has been awarded to the Australian National Square Dance Convention Board. This will be used to stage the 62nd Convention at the Goulburn Recreation Area from 21st-25th  April 2022.

The most recent event to gain support under the Policy is the Hume Conservatorium’s, Hume Chamber Music Festival. A total of $10,000 – $5,000 in financial support and in-kind assistance to the value of $5,000 – from the Policy’s Incubator Funding Stream has been approved.

The inaugural Festival is planned to be held during the September 2021 school holidays. It is expected that it will become an annual two-day festival, featuring concerts and workshops bringing a total economic benefit to the local area of approximately $507,961.

Goulburn Mulwaree Council’s Coordinator Marketing and Events, Jessica Price, said she is delighted that Council is able to support such vibrant and diverse events that bring significant benefit to the region and notes “we have recently seen an increase in the number of Event Development Funding Applications which is great to see coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic. Attracting these events is a great boost to both the region’s economy and the community.”

Applications for Council’s Event Development Funding are open year-round, however, must be submitted at least six months prior to the commencement of the event.
