Goodlife acquires six Fitness First clubs

Coinciding with announcing a recorded $102.6 million in total revenues for the 2011/2012 financial year, up 13.9% on the previous year, Goodlife Health Clubs has announced that it has acquired six Fitness First clubs - five in South Australia and one in Victoria.

The acquisition of the Fitness First portfolio will see Goodlife Health Clubs increase their number of clubs to a total of 54 nationally.

Part of Ardent Leisure Group's premium leisure assets including the Dreamworld and WhiteWater World theme parks; AMF and Kingpin Bowling Centres, d'Albora Marinas and Main Event, the results and acquisition show Goodlife Health Clubs are fighting fit and a strong player in the competitive fitness market.

Goodlife Health Clubs Chief Executive Greg Oliver said the incredible full year results and sales growth were the result of positive trading from the three Melbourne clubs acquired during the course of the year, further sophistication of new digital sales strategies, together with the benefit of improved incremental revenue streams.

Oliver stated "our solid performance in the Ardent Leisure full year results saw Goodlife continue to grow and gain market share against all major competitors, we strengthened our Melbourne portfolio with the acquisition of Waverley Park, Caroline Spring and Prahan clubs and showed improvement across all key indicators, including an increase in EBITDA and constant club revenue.

"Fitness First has had a long and successful history in the South Australian fitness industry and the current teams have built tremendous goodwill. We look forward to working with the new clubs and continuing to provide outstanding service to our members."

Goodlife Health Clubs aim to transition and rebrand the Fitness First clubs in Adelaide City, Payneham, Marion, Holden Hill and Hindmarsh and the Essendon club in Victoria with minimal disruption to existing members.

Celebrating 10 years in the business this year, the health club recently appeared in the IHRSA Global List in the categories of Number of Clubs, Numbers of Members and Revenue Growth.

Oliver adds "the results are even more pleasing when you consider the success has been achieved during one of the most competitive eras of the Australian fitness market."

Australian owned and one of the nation's largest fitness club groups, Goodlife Health Clubs will open two new clubs - at Dernancourt in South Australia and Maroochydore in Queensland - towards the end of this year, and a club at Westlakes in South Australia in 2013.
