Gold Coast Marathon entrants encouraged to take advantage of standard fees

Gold Coast Marathon entrants are being encouraged to take advantage of standard entry fees which will end next Tuesday 31st May at 11.59pm.

The event is anticipated to attract over 20,000 runners this year and will be the largest mass-participation event in Australia this year and since COVID-19 decimated the event and festival industry across the nation more than two years ago.

Events Management Queensland Chief Executive, Cameron Hart said the organisation had taken the time over the last couple of years to review the event operations and introduced a two-day program that starts at 6:00am each day kicking off with half marathon on Saturday 2nd July and full marathon on Sunday 3rd July.

Hart notes “the benefits of the earlier starts will see runners starting off just before sunrise each day and experiencing the cooler temperatures of early mornings, which should see fast times and lots of personal best results.

"Whilst sporting events including the rugby league, netball and AFL and some music festivals have emerged from the pandemic to now host almost capacity crowds, community participation events have been slower to return.

“This event will be a shot in the arm for business and tourism on the Gold Coast and in Queensland with thousands of entrants expected to take advantage of the state’s many and varied world-class attractions pre and post event.”

Entries are continuing to roll in ahead of the Friday 1st July closing date for the Saturday events which include the half marathon, 2km and 4km junior dash and 5km fun run. Entries for Sunday’s marathon, wheelchair 10km and marathon and the 10km run will close on Saturday 2nd July.

Race enthusiasts hail from all corners of Australia with a number of international entrants heading down under from New Zealand, USA, Japan and Singapore.

The 2022 Village Roadshow Theme Parks Gold Coast Marathon weekend will also feature the ASICS Half Marathon, Southern Cross University 10km Run, Gold Coast Airport 5km Run, the Health and Wellbeing Queensland 2km and 4km Junior Dashes and the always-hotly-contested CPL 42km and 10km wheelchair races.

The Gold Coast Double 63.3km event – contested by hardy runners competing in both Saturday’s half and Sunday’s full marathon - will also be contested.

The Village Roadshow Theme Parks Gold Coast Marathon is organised by Events Management Queensland, a major event management company wholly owned by the Queensland Government as part of Tourism and Events Queensland.
