Georges River Council commences community consultation on site for new aquatic centre

Looking at suitable locations for a third aquatic centre in its boundaries, Sydney’s Georges River Council has commenced a community consultation regarding the Draft Georges River Regional Aquatic Site Suitability and Feasibility Study.

Compiled by industry consultants the Otium Planning Group, the Study was endorsed unanimously for public exhibition at the Council Meeting on Monday 16th December 2019.

Now Georges River Council Mayor, Kevin Greene is encouraging members of the community to have their say online via Council's Your Say Georges River Portal or via mail, up to 28th February 2020.

Mayor Greene advised "Otium Planning Group has been commissioned by Council to explore options for a potential third aquatic facility within the Georges River area.

"The Draft Georges River Regional Aquatic Site Suitability and Feasibility Study will be on public exhibition for an extended period which takes into consideration the school holidays, to enable as many people as possible to have their say.

"In October, we asked the community to complete local aquatic facilities surveys, and findings from these surveys have helped develop the Study, which includes an analysis of results from this consultation.

"I strongly encourage local residents to view the document and share feedback - following community consultation, the final Georges River Regional Aquatic Site Suitability and Feasibility Study will be submitted to Council for adoption.”

Otium Planning Group has applied 14 sustainable assessment criteria to four possible locations within the Study area.

These sites include the Sans Souci Leisure Centre, Todd Park, Carrs Bush Park and Netstrata Jubilee Stadium.

The future regional Aquatic Facility has a wide scope, which may include an indoor or outdoor 50 metre pool, 15 metre or 25 metre heated program pools and other uses, such as a cafe, crèche, gymnasium, health and wellbeing centre, water splash play area, community meeting spaces and car parking.

Community members can now access the Study and share feedback online on via Council's Your Say Georges River website at yoursay.georgesriver.nsw.gov.au.

Feedback can be emailed to regionalaquatics@georgesriver.nsw.gov.au.
