Mattioli launches cost effective commercial pool relining system
Protective coatings leader Mattioli has launched Acquaskin, an innovative and cost effective commercial pool relining system that allows aquatic centres to retrofit protection on cracking and leaking concrete pool floors and surfaces.
Mindful that leaks are an ongoing challenge with ageing commercial pools across Australia and New Zealand, over the last two years Mattioli have been consulting with engineers, local government and industry bodies to develop a solution to the major industry issue.
With extensive aquatic and recreation industry experience, the Melbourne-based company has assessed the tools and surface technology available to retrofit protection on cracking and leaking concrete surfaces.
The solution, Acquaskin, is a highly innovative flexible reinforced relining system that will stop leaks, protect the substrate and give a pool or deck another 20+ years’ protection for the fraction of the cost compared to the repair and retiling of a pool.
A Mattioli spokesperson advises “for new construction Acquaskin works as a membrane to protect the typical porous properties of the concrete substrate and has some flexibility to deal with the slight movement of newly formed pool structures.
“If pool tiles are the chosen choice Acquaskin can be seen as complimentary system to protect the tiles from water ingress, a leading factor in tile failure.
“Just like a shower base in your home Acquaskin acts as the waterproof membrane protecting the concrete from water damage.”
The chemical makeup of Acquaskin originates from the use of the product on acid bunds and chemical plant room bunds.
Highly resistant to chemicals such as chlorine and sodium hydrochloride, it is a flexible Polyurea based system allowing movement without the risk of tearing or delamination.
With movement and shrinkage found in new current day concrete structures, Acquaskin provides a flexible membrane lining to new and ageing assets.
Established in 1974, Mattioli has accumulate a wealth of experience across the coating industry undertaking a large number of noteworthy and challenging projects including Flinders Street Station, Melbourne’s Young & Jacksons Hotel, the Westgate Bridge, the Arts Centre Melbourne, Melbourne Water and St Kilda Sea Baths.
The award winning company (Master Painters Australia) has extensive experience in coatings for aquatic, recreation and sport facilities.
