AW Edwards to undertake SCG redevelopment

AW Edwards has been announced as the main works contractor responsible for construction of the new northern stand at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Annoucning the appointment, NSW Minister for Sport and Recreation, Graham Annesley explained "the new stand will replace the MA Noble, Bradman and Messenger Stands with construction expected to commence in July.

"Decommissioning and demolition of the stand will commence later this month and the redevelopment project is expected to create some 1,800 jobs.

"AW Edwards was responsible for the construction of the Victor Trumper Stand and I congratulate the company on being awarded this prestigious project pending final contracts being signed."

AW Edwards is a leading privately owned Australian construction company which has operated continuously for more than 88 years.

The new Stand will offer a more dynamic match day experience for fans, enhance spectator comfort and intensify the SCG's great match-day atmosphere and rich sense of tradition.

Minister Annesley added "the project is expected to be finished ahead of the Ashes Test Match between Australia and England in January 2014."

Mike Driscoll and Associates (MDA) have been appointed as the F&B consultants and food service designers for the project.

Mike Driscoll wrote on planning for F&B in major venues in the November/December 2011 issue of Australasian Leisure Management.
