Tourism in Focus event celebrates the people behind NSW's best tourism businesses

The Tourism Industry Council NSW has launched its annual Tourism in Focus initiative, showcasing the diversity and quality of tourism products across NSW.

Now in its second year, Tourism in Focus will run from today until the 3rd August 2013, and will specifically concentrate on the people and characters behind NSW's best tourism businesses.

Tourism Industry Council NSW General Manager Andrew Jefferies wants the initiative to evoke a strong sense of passion and pride in the people who help us make life-long memories from family holidays, weekend getaways and corporate trips.

Jeffries explains "this is the perfect time for those in the tourism realm to bring current issues to light, promote tourism statistics and fast facts that are not necessarily common knowledge and obviously highlight the unsung heroes in your local areas.

"We've also been fortunate enough to have a major sponsor come on board this year to help us expand and promote the initiative the Caravan and Camping Industry Association NSW."

The caravan and camping industry are seen as ideal supporters of this initiative, with Jeffries adding "having grown year upon year, in what were hard times for the tourism industry in an unsettled economy; it is thanks to the caravan and camping industry that tourism has managed to ride the wave and come out the other side with solid growth in the domestic market and tourism industry as a whole."

To highlight the role tourism operators play in the economy, the winners of the 2012 NSW Tourism Awards (of whom 16 won either gold or silver at the 2012 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards in Hobart earlier this year) will be some of the foci of this week's celebrations.

The Tourism in Focus campaign strongly encourages tourism operators around the state, local bureaus, information centres, local media and tourism centres to join in on the conversations taking place across the NSW Tourism Awards social media networks.

A dedicated Facebook app has been created to showcase images and a 'calendar of events', taking place during the week long campaign.
