General Manager appointed for 2015 Netball World Championships
The 2015 World Netball Championships in Sydney has taken a significant step with the appointment of Netball Australia's former Head of Commercial, Marne Fechner as the tournament's General Manager.
Fechner has held a number of senior and executive positions, including acting-Chief Executive at Netball Victoria, during her decade of experience as a netball administrator.
Netball Australia has doubled its commercial turnover since 2007 with Fechner instrumental in securing new corporate partners for the sport while implementing and leading a national commercial framework which has seen the national body and eight member organisations work collectively.
Explaining the appointment, Netball Australia Chief Executive Kate Palmer stated "Marne has been responsible for a significant shift in the commercial outcomes for netball in Australia over the past six years, and is ready to step up to this role and deliver the best ever World Netball Championships.
"Marne has a strong vision for what can be achieved for both the Championships and netball and I am excited about netball taking another massive leap forward."
The mother of two has also led international commercial workgroup projects and has overseen the rebranding and restructure of the commercial frameworks of the International Netball Federation (INF).
Fechner added "having a World Netball Championship, the sport's pinnacle event, on our shore provides us with another opportunity to take a further step forward.
"We will deliver an event that is not only commercially successful for Netball Australia and the international body but one that will deliver a long term legacy for the sport in Australia, Asia and globally."
