Underwater ‘reefsuites’ now welcoming guests on the Great Barrier Reef
The Great Barrier Reef is now home to Australia's first underwater hotel with the Reefworld pontoon in the Whitsundays now welcoming guests.
Part of the new $10 million Reefworld floating pontoon - moored at Hardy Reef, around 40 nautical miles from Airlie Beach, Reefsuites features two underwater rooms that can sleep four in total.
Each of the air-conditioned suites are situated four metres below the main deck (accessible via stairs) and comes with floor-to-ceiling views of the Reef and its marine life.
There are glass panels in the floor while the underwater vistas can also be viewed from the attached private ensuites.
In daylight, the room is bathed in the blue glow of the water as schools of baitfish battle the current and yellow-tailed fusiliers make cameos. At night, guests can can control lights outside that draw sealife towards the glass.
