Geelong commences stand development at Simonds Stadium

Builders Kane Constructions have recently commenced construction of the $38 million Southern Stand development at Geelong's Simonds Stadium.

The redevelopment is the third stage in a series of ongoing redevelopments at the Stadium, all of which have been negotiated on behalf of the Geelong Football Club by Waypoint's Managing Director, Chris Dare.

The Stage 3 redevelopment will see the Stadium's capacity increase to approximately 33,500 and include improved facilities for spectators at the venue, plus a community wellness and education centre which shall become the focal point of the Club's community programs.

Geelong Football Club Chief Executive Brian Cook commented "it is great to see construction commence over the past 2 weeks, and the Club's members cannot wait until they get access to the new and improved spectator facilities within the 9,500 seat grandstand."

The Stage 3 Redevelopment project is being jointly funded by the State Government ($26.5 million), Geelong Football Club ($4.125 million), the Australian Football League ($3.25 million) and the City of Greater Geelong ($3 million).

In addition, the Federal Government ($10 million) is providing funding towards the installation of Sports Lighting at Simonds Stadium.

The project is due for completion by the end of May 2013.
