Standards, safety and incident management the focus at AALARA 2018 conference

The completed program for the Australian Amusement, Leisure and Recreation Association (AALARA) 2018 Conference will deliver a series of presentations on standards, safety and incident management.

Being held at the Novotel Twin Waters on the Sunshine Coast from 8th to 10th May, the Conference is bringing together a group of talented and dynamic international and Australian industry leaders and speakers to present inspiring and informative leadership key notes and educational industry breakout forums relevant to the safe and profitable management of attractions and amusement industry businesses.

Key international presentations at the Conference are being backed by the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA).

These include key notes from:

Andreas Andersen - IAAPA Chairman and Chief Executive and President of the Liseberg Group, one of Sweden’s most popular tourist attractions.
Andersen has spent the past six years overseeing the theme park and its adjacent hotels, campsites, and entertainment venues and will share his experience of attractions operations and his long association with IAAPA having previously served as Executive Director for IAAPA’s European office, leading the expansion of the association’s presence in Europe.

Hal McEvoy – IAAPA interim President, Chief Executive and Chief Financial Officer
As IAAPA’s interim leader and head strategic advisor on all issues that have a financial impact on IAAPA’s global mission and member service offerings, McEvoy will address What Attracted Me & Kept Me in the Industry.

ASTM and Australia
In the current heightened safety environment, two sessions will address the role of industry safety standards and, in particular, the role of the US-based ASTM International.

On the first day of the Conference an information session will explore how, with many countries adopting ASTM it is now becoming the global standard for amusements, rides and attractions.

On the final day of the Conference a Global Expert Panel will consider The Australian ASTM Road Forward.

Panel members will include:

Katerina Koperna - Manager, F24* Committee, ASTM International
Joe Van Dam - Principal Engineer - Design & Engineering at Walt Disney World
