Cancellation of Freds Pass Rural Show
The Freds Pass Management Board have cancelled this year's Freds Pass Rural Show, originally scheduled for May, and have said they will no longer be involved in running the event.
Held 30 kilometres south of Darwin, the Freds Pass Rural Show has been an annual event providing a regional focus on productivity, enterprise and community. 2012 saw the Show celebrate its 34th year a milestone for an event which commenced as a school fete.
However, with the show committee having disbanded last year, the Management Board was not prepared to meet the costs of the event.
In a press release the Board explains "the financial risk of running the Freds Pass Rural Show over the past few years has become increasingly more difficult to manage."
The Board is calling for other groups, including Litchfield Council, to step in.
