'Garden of Earthly Delights' to transform Blue Mountains Botanic Garden on its 30th birthday
Over 50 live performers, musicians and visual artists will engage in song, dance, poetry, theatre and exhibition at the upcoming Garden of Earthly Delights event on 11th and 12th November 2017, as the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden Mount Tomah officially celebrates its 30th Birthday.
Introducing the creativity that will transform Australia’s best-loved cool-climate botanic garden into a vibrant stage Festival Artistic Director Susan Cochrane explained “partly inspired by Hieronymus Bosch’s world-famous painting with the same title, The Garden of Earthly Delights will be a unique fusion of nature and culture for all the community to enjoy” said Susan Cochrane, festival Artistic Director.
“Surrounded by pristine World Heritage Listed Area, the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden has such a powerful energy, it epitomises the untouched beauty that attracts so many creatives to the greater Blue Mountains region.
“Dress as a steampunk or a fairy, discover ephemeral installations, dally under the PoetTree, delight in music and song - it is the perfect way to celebrate the 30th Birthday of this treasure!”
The long ‘must-see’ list for the weekend features an impressive Darug Welcome Ceremony, ‘Bacchant’ dancers inspired by Greek mythology, a human dragonfly, a five-metre tunnel installation and a live panel discussion with celebrated designer, artist and Blue Mountains local, Jenny Kee.
Kee commented “I have such a strong passion for the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden, from its flamboyant Waratah displays to the beautiful setting in which it is nestled” said Jenny Kee.
“In many ways, this Garden has fuelled and inspired my work - my Waratah artworks which will be on exhibit over the weekend are a fantastic example.”
