Funding secured for 23 sporting groups and recreation facilities across Western Australia

The Western Australia Government has committed $9.35 million to fund 23 sporting groups and recreational facilities around the State to build stronger, healthier communities.

The projects have been funded in the latest round of the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF) administered by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC).

The CSRFF provides financial assistance to community groups and local governments to develop basic infrastructure for sport and recreation.

Western Australia Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray advised "modern sport and recreation facilities and infrastructure play an important role for our many communities across WA.

"In many cases, these facilities also provide meeting and social opportunities for locals, especially in country towns, and can contribute greatly to helping foster community spirit and wellbeing.

"I commend these sporting groups and local governments for their commitment to provide better facilities and build stronger, healthier communities."

The projects to receive funding are located across the State: from Broome in the Kimberley, to communities in the Wheatbelt, the Perth metropolitan area, and the south-west and south coast of Western Australia.

They include:

• $1 million to redevelop Beale Park in Spearwood to include a new pavilion, floodlighting and oval works;
• $750,000 to help construct two covered outdoor multipurpose courts with lighting in Port Hedland;
• $500,000 to amenities at Ron Jose Oval in Midvale;
• $400,000 to redevelop McKenzie Pavilion at Cresswell Park in Swanbourne;
• $309,995 to four netball courts and lighting to the oval at Kojonup Sports Precinct;
• $300,000 for floodlighting on the Nipper Roe Sports Field in Broome;
• $260,410 to relocate bowling and tennis facilities at Condingup, east of Esperance;
• $194,347 towards two tennis courts and one multi-marked court with lighting, and lighting of a bowling green at Wyalkatchem; and
• $121,000 to relocate two netball courts at Morawa.
