New Name for Western Australia's Premier Sports Awards
SportWest has unveiled a new name for Western Australia's premier sports awards, with the launch of the RAC SportWest Awards 2019.
Formerly the Sports Star Awards, the name change reflects the broader celebration of sport in the West Australian community, with The West Australian RAC Sports Star remaining an integral category as the most prestigious award in WA sport.
Introducing the new branding, SportWest Chief Executive, Rob Thompson stated “the RAC SportWest Awards strongly highlight the undeniable value of sport in the community for Western Australians.
"The long tradition of Sports Star Award remains as a key element and focal point of the occasion, with the event also celebrating the role of sport in the lives of so many across our state."
The Healthway Healthy Club Award has been introduced to the event in 2019, and includes financial support to the winner to further extend healthy club initiatives. It follows a commitment from RAC to provide financial support to the RAC Insurance Community Club of the Year winner and RAC Insurance Beyond Sport Award. Hyundai committed financial support to 2018 Junior Sports Star winner Zac Littlewood to pursue his sailing ambitions through 2019.
Nominations can be lodged via State Sporting Associations that are SportWest members, and remain open until Monday 11th November 2019.
The RAC SportWest Awards 2019 will be presented at Optus Stadium on Thursday 13th February 2020.
