Geelong Council delivers $3 million funding for sport and community facility upgrades
Greater Geelong Council has provided funding of more than $3.2 million to community clubs and groups across the region, funding pavilion upgrades, new floodlights, improved cricket facilities, kitchen and bathroom renovations and community events.
A total of 30 clubs and groups have shared in the funding for infrastructure projects, including six grants of the maximum $350,000.
North Shore Football Netball Club, Lara Football Club, Lara United FC and North Geelong Warriors FC have all received the maximum grant for new floodlights around their playing fields.
St Mary’s Football Netball Club has been awarded $350,000 towards its pavilion redevelopment, and Anam Cara House Geelong has received the same contribution towards its planned palliative care community hub.
Other large grants have gone to the Highton Girl Guides ($260,000 for a new accessible toilet and open plan kitchen) and Bell Park Cricket Club ($158,800 for upgraded training facilities).
The list also sees $76,000 being sent to the Geelong Canoe Club for a new all abilities accessible canoe platform, $77,843 to the Serbian Parish Youth Club for accessible toilets and baby change facilities, and $66,000 to the Indented Head Community Association for a multi-purpose tennis and basketball facility.
