Funding program revamped to support Northern Territory events
In support of the Northern Territory’s events industry, the Territory Government’s Event Funding Program (EFP) has been revamped to make applying for event support easier and more accessible.
Administered by Northern Territory Major Events Company, the next round of the EFP will open on Friday, 13th October 2023.
Growing and developing the Territory events calendar brings many benefits, including creating and supporting jobs, generating economic stimulus and improving the liveability of the Territory. A review of the EFP, carried out in consultation with a range of stakeholders, has seen the development of new categories and funding levels, to help event organisers deliver events that achieve the above benefits.
The review has resulted in a simplified application process, with applications welcome in the following categories:
Cultural Event - celebrates arts, music, culture, multi-culturalism, food and beverage, innovation, diversity, niche interests and seasonality;
Sport Event – celebrates sport, inspires sport participation, improves liveability;
Aboriginal Cultural Event - celebrates Aboriginal culture, inspires the community, attracts visitation, and encourages, supports, empowers and builds the capacity of Indigenous businesses.
NTMEC Chief Executive Suzana Bishop notes “Territorians love to get out there and experience events, and the Territory hosts some of Australia’s, if not the world’s, most unique events. The Event Funding Program helps event organisers create, and build upon, offerings that are an invaluable addition to our vibrant events calendar.
“By supporting locals to create events we are improving the liveability of the NT and driving a strong tourism economy, which has far-reaching benefits for a wide range of businesses.
“Event Funding Program support can be used to help get new events off the ground, or help those that already exist grow and evolve.”
Prior to the next EFP round opening, there will be information sessions in Darwin and Alice Springs for those keen to find out more. Dates will be confirmed soon. NTMEC industry updates at ntmajorevents.com.au/sign-up.
