NTMEC secures world-famous Harlem Globetrotters show for the Northern Territory
Northern Territory Major Events Company has secured the iconic basketball team, The Original Harlem Globetrotters, for a show in Darwin as part of an Australian and New Zealand tour next year.
It is the first time in decades the global entertainment team will travel to the Territory, bringing a contingent of some of the world’s best basketball players to the Top End.
The Globetrotters have dazzled crowds with their skills, tricks and techniques since they began in 1926.
Today they travel the world, playing in sold-out arenas, delighting audiences of all ages and inspiring the next generation to take up the sport.
Territorians can catch the family-friendly show during the school holidays on Monday, 24th June 2024.
During their last visit to Australia in 2022, the Globetrotters drew massive crowds keen to see their exceptional basketball skills and showmanship, and a Territory audience can expect to be equally impressed.
The Globetrotter’s visit comes as basketball continues to soar in popularity across the Northern Territory.
NT Chief Minister, Natasha Fyles “Attracting an international event of this calibre to the Territory provides world-class entertainment for Territorians, and delivers a boost to the local economy through visitation, tourism and hospitality.
“Basketball is a popular and rapidly growing sport in Darwin, so it’s wonderful to be able to bring some of the best players in the world to the Territory through the Harlem Globetrotters.
“Our young basketballers will get to watch some of the greats in action without having to go interstate, and even non-basketballers will find plenty to entertain them at this show.”
Arnold Bernard, Harlem Globetrotters International Booking Director adds “We are absolutely delighted to be coming to Darwin during our 2024 World Tour.
“Australia has always been one of our favourite places to travel to because of the unbelievable passion and support we get from the fans.
“We have no doubt the people of Darwin will provide that same fantastic support and we can’t wait to get there next June.”
Their Darwin visit is supported by the Northern Territory Government through the Northern Territory Major Events Company (NTMEC).
