Basketball Victoria program among initiatives funded to increase inclusive participation

Basketball Victoria will deliver the Free Throws program for women and gender-diverse people who want to learn all the basics of shooting hoops in a free, flexible and welcoming environment.
Basketball Victoria General Manager David Huxtable shared "with funding from the Together More Active program, we aim to upskill and educate the basketball community on the importance of gender equity, the impact it has on health and wellbeing, and the role basketball associations and clubs can play in promoting equity on and off the court."
Victorian Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence today announced funding of more than $14.5 million to support over 100 projects through the latest round of the State Government's Together More Active program.
Uniting people through sport, the program is aimed at encouraging community members to participate in local sport and recreation activities, helping organisations increase local memberships, building a skilled workforce and developing a safe, resilient and inclusive sector.
Other successful recipients include CMSport, which will develop a strategy aimed at reducing incidents of racism in community sport, through a partnership with Koorie Heritage Trust and seven Victorian State Sporting Associations.
Funding to Disability Sport and Recreation Victoria will enhance the capability of local governments to deliver more opportunities for people of all abilities.
