Fun Planet indoor entertainment centre reopens in Shepparton

Go karts, laser tag and arcade games will be returning to Shepparton when the Fun Planet family entertainment centre reopens this week after being closed for more than 12 months.

The centre has been revamped since shutting its doors at the start of 2020 with director Jason Wallace joining Kyabram businessman Chris Motton and Zak Athanasiadis to reinvigorate Fun Planet.

The state-of-the-art Sodi go karts, a ‘three story’ laser tag arena and more than 130 arcade games all return as the centre prepares for a grand reopening ahead of the July school holidays, which Wallace said was the busiest time of year for indoor entertainment centres.

Fun Planet will operate using the Intercard sytem which has proven at other locations to be very reliable and robust.

The 12-metre-high rock climbing wall and mini golf will open in time for the school holidays, with the wall needing safety accreditation before it can be put back into use, while the mini golf space will be renovated and put back into use around the same time.

A limited food menu of sandwiches, wraps, chips and drinks will also be available, with an area for parents to sit, next to a small playground to keep smaller children entertained.

Fun Planet has four rooms for parties and functions, with online bookings now open. Online bookings are also available for individual laser tag or go-kart sessions.

Fun Planet will be operating the RaceFacer go-kart timing system which has integrated app, marketing and many other features.

Wallace notes “they are ahead of the pack in terms of features and options, and very price competitive.”

Wallace has worked for a wide range of entertainment companies, including Timezone, Laserforce and Fun Lab, which operates Holey Moley & Strike bowling among other brands. He also established his own consulting firm LBEPartners which provides contract services to others in the out of home entertainment industry.

As one of Australia’s largest supplier of amusement games, Zak Athanasiadis has been in the industry for three decades. Not only is he a distributor, but he also has his own Arcade operations, Totally Game operating in two locations in Melbourne.

About 25 people will be employed at the centre, including a mix of full-time and casual workers.

Supplying four birthday party rooms a go-kart function room and a small theatre, Fun Planet is a full service indoor family entertainment centre FEC.
