Free entry Tuesdays for seniors at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre

The Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre (SOPAC) is to introduce free entry for pensioners and seniors on Tuesdays.

NSW Sports Minister Stuart Ayres today announced the initiative at the facility, as a newly refurbished $206,000 water slide re-opened for families at Splashes Indoor Adventure Park.

Minister Ayres stated “I realise the weather outside is getting cooler, but the pool temperature is set to a balmy 26 degrees, so there is something on offer for everyone at Sydney Olympic Park this winter.”

Some 15,000 pensioners visit the Centre every year and it’s expected many more will be enticed into the water for Stay Active programs such as Aqua Aerobics.

Minister Ayres added “we are proud to be supporting this initiative. Swimming is the perfect low impact exercise for older Australians and this is about promoting healthier lifestyles - to help the mind and body.

“Our seniors have worked hard all their lives, it is only fitting that we provide access to facilities to improve their health and well-being where we can.”

Thrill seekers at SOPAC will also now be able to enjoy the upgraded 45-metre multi-coloured water slide at the Centre, after the previous 20-year old slide was dismantled in May this year.

Minister Ayres concluded “the new slide looks incredible, and there is plenty to see and do at Sydney Olympic Park, we invite everyone to come and try it out for themselves.”
